Yellow Roses

In 1957 I went on a college class trip to Europe for a few months in the summer.
One of my traveling group was another student I had not met on campus before.
He and I became friendly and eventually that friendship evolved into a
romantic relationship. Before we left on the trip, each of us had been seeing other people and, as a matter of fact, we were each kind of committed to other people back home in the USA.
However, we continued the romance that had blossomed overseas even after our return.
After we were back at home for several months, I celebrated my birthday and
he sent me a dozen yellow roses, which he had found out were my favorite flowers. Over the course of the next year, we both decided to go back to our former partners and eventually we both married them.
Then we lost contact for the next fifty years.
Recently, through Classmates.com we reconnected, me divorced and him still married with children and grandchildren.
My birthday this year found me answering the door to a delivery person holding
a bouquet of yellow roses from my romance of half a century ago.
He remembered!
