The Backyard

When my boyfriend and I decided to
'make it official' we got tons of well meaning and largely unsolicited advice.
That we came from different faiths, he is Catholic, I am Protestant only confused matters more.
Both mom's had ideas of WHAT constituted the perfect wedding...
- A church
- A long white dress
- Caterers
- Waltzes...
We did indeed threaten to elope.
We listened politely and hatched this little plan.
We invited only our closest friends and relatives to a spring barbecue.
The food was catered by me, some potato salad and baked beans.
The groom to be manned the grill for the first part of the afternoon until our surprise guest showed up.
The Justice of the Peace arrived and we called everyone into the center of the yard.
We exchanged vows right there by the grape arbor we put up together. After the shock wore off, which honestly didn't take very long...
...Everyone went back to the eating of hamburgers and talking about what a wonderful surprise our
'elopement' turned out to be.
You don't have to disinclude people you love, because isn't it all about doing it on your own terms?
Try an ambush wedding...it's lots of fun.
