Simple Things Matter in Long Distance Relationships

My courtship with my husband was a good year long one.

One whole year after we got engaged to marry, we lived in different countries.

Today I am in my 20th year of marriage and thinking back makes me nostalgic.

Today we have hi tech gadgets and Internet to keep us all connected.

But then internet was not such a common thing to access.

You have to first of all have the computer knowledge, and then have to have access to an internet cafe, as then not every home had a system.

So, my husband being his real romantic self used to write letters to me.

One letter everyday.

And each letter would talk about how his day went.

Along with the letter he would send other interesting stuffs. It could be a leaf or a petal, or a button, or it could even be some cotton from his pillow.

These small little things kept me close to him.

The best was a surprise he gave me. We were able to request songs on the national radio and dedicate it to anybody we know.

So as he was in a different country, he made one of his friends in India to put in a request for a particular song and dedicate it to me on his behalf.

And when that particular program was to be aired, he called me and made me turn on the radio and stay online with me till his request was played...

And...

Listening to our names on the radio really took me by surprise.

So, small little things do excite us and it keeps the flame on.

You don't need to get a solitaire for your lady, just be thoughtful.

Your gestures matter and that's life and relations are all about.
