One Rose

It was Valentines Day 1995.
I worked a part time job, and my boyfriend of five years worked part time also.
We both were students in college.
We didn't earn a lot of money, but we always tried to get each other a little something.
We were kids who had started dating the summer before we entered high school.
I sat at my desk working as usual.
Every girl in the office had flowers.
Some had a desk full.
I HAD NONE! I wasn't upset because I knew he loved me and earned just enough to pay for school.
At 1:00pm I finally got to go to lunch. It was late and I was starving. I went to the local park and ate my sandwich.
When I returned, I found
ONE SINGLE ROSE on my desk.
It wasn't wrapped and no special extras were with it but a small note saying
"It's only one, but for the one I will love for the rest of my life." It made my heart melt and I cried.
The rest of the girls were in awe.
It was the most wonderful thing I had ever received and meant more than
a ten dozen roses could have.
We've been together for 19 years and I still receive one single red rose each year with a card that states the same thing.
Matthew sends me flowers for different reasons throughout the year. It reminds me that he thinks about me, loves me, and he appreciates the things that I do for him.
It's his way of saying things without speaking.
Flowers have the ability to say everything a man needs to say without them ever uttering a word. It's a blessing.
My single
red valentine's day rose is a reminder of how powerful love is and can be.
