Mexico City or Bust Proposal

Fear and insecurity, that is the answer.

Forget rejection, think of torture.

That's right, I got my beautiful, intelligent, sexy girl friend (that I never even thought would go out on a date) to marry me because she wanted to go to visit Mexico City.

Here is how it worked...

My girlfriend was Chinese and she had always wanted to visit Mexico. So I say "sure thing, but shouldn't we get married first"?

She looks at me and says "Why do we need to get married"?

I think about what to say next, "Oh, it's obvious! What happens if we get arrested and you end up in jail?

Mexican jails are terrible, don’t they torture people there and give you food with maggots in it.

Would you rather be bailed by your boyfriend or your husband?

Do boyfriends even have legal status in Mexico, would you ever see the light of day again, have you not watched ‘Midnight Express’"??

No brainer!!

Forget the fact that there is no reason that we would end up in jail, or even if there is, should we really be going to Mexico if the penalty is marriage?

Anyway...

... Next day we get married, get our visas, head off to Mexico.

And...

Before you know it 20 years, 2 great kids, three cats, a mortgage and a few more trips back to Mexico.

... Later I have to admit it was the best piece of coercion ever.
