Long Distance Relationship

by Heather
(Nashville, TN)

My boyfriend had joined the Military and left for 6 weeks of Basic Training 1 month after we started dating.

This was really hard because we had so little time to date and enjoy each other.

I wrote to him every day and sent packages as soon as he could receive them.

He also wrote me letters.

Once out of Basic, he was stationed in FL, 600 miles from me.

I changed my cell phone provider to the one he used so we could talk a lot and not use minutes.

We also wrote letters and sent cards a lot to keep each other strong.

I flew down to see him at least once a month, and he tried to come home some too.

Well, this was just the beginning of our long distance relationship because a few month later, he was deployed to the Persian Gulf for 6 months.

I went down one last time before he left and saw him off.

That day, I bought a calendar and started marking off the days until he returned.

At first, this was not very encouraging, but as time passed, and months went by, I started getting excited at how much time had gone by.

During this deployment, he could call (with phone cards I gave him)and we emailed a lot too.

I put together "care packages" and sent them to him almost weekly.

The day he came home was wonderful and we picked up where we had left off 6 months earlier.

As of today, our relationship has survived 2 deployments and we are still going strong, thanks to our mutual commitment to our relationship.

Our love grown stronger every day and finally, after 4 years, we live in the same city.

Life is wonderful!!
