It All Starts with a Mosquito Net!

I had just recently moved into a new house and I had a blank palate to work with.

I did some research and fell in love with a bedroom I saw in a local magazine.

I chose a nice warm yellow/gold for the walls in my bedroom. This created a welcoming environment and it worked perfectly with the darker trim around the room.

I was inspired by the bold reds and blacks from Asian design and found linens, decor such as red rugs and Chinese lanterns, scented candles...

...An Asian inspired table runner for my dresser, gold and red lampshades and of course an elegant black mosquito net to place over the bed to compliment the theme I was going trying to exude.

My furniture is a lighter wood, and the red really brought out the furniture in a good way since it would have been lost against a similarly colored wall.

I placed a large paper fan on the wall which contained several of the colors in the room but it brought in a few more elements as well.

It was the focal point of the room.

The bright red rug on the floor (which I found at Wal-Mart for a steal!) brought the whole room together.

The net over the bed really gave an other-worldly feel to the room, and placed a nice security wall around the sleeper.

It was so comfortable and so rich in color that I loved to spend so much time in that bedroom.

It all started with the net, the rest came naturally.

I did most of my shopping at discount stores and believe me, it was worth it to see the whole room come together.
