How Nanny Got Her Baby

My step-daughter married directly out of high-school.

She decided at 16 that she didn't ever want to have children because her Mom died when she was young and it hurt her very bad.

She didn't want that to happen to a child of hers.

I'd bring up the subject of grandchildren every so often and get the same answer.

In an effort to call a truce with my daughter and let her know that I would support her decision, I planned a romantic evening for her and my son-in-law for the evening of his return from a lengthy trip.

This was in September 2002.

While my daughter was at the airport to get my son-in-law, my sister and I went to work with my plan.

We basically turned their living room into a bedroom filled with enticing scents and visions.

We delivered and set-up wine and seafood dishes we'd prepared earlier.

We arranged them in dishes of varying heights and placed them throughout the living area and around the fireplace.

We moved the sofa and entertainment center into the attached garage and placed different sized pillows throughout the room on the floor.

We draped intensely colored and vanilla scented yards of sheer fabric over pillows, around dishes and anywhere else we could think of.

We had purchased 18 or so mirrors of varying shapes and sizes and placed them along the walls and floors.

Finally we set up my sisters video camera and plugged the extra battery up to charge.

We waited at least another 30 minutes before my daughter and so-in-law got there.

When they arrived, they were told that we wanted them to have a nice evening, that the only rooms to be used were the living room, kitchen and restroom, and...

That they were to have no outside communication of any kind until the next day at noon.

They agreed.

I went over the next day at noon and everything was in its proper place once again.

However there was no tape in the video camera.

Now I never asked anything other than whether they enjoyed their evening. But, on June 24, 2003(38 weeks later)my granddaughter of 5lb 15oz was born.

I never saw it, but that must be some video.
