Flood Them With Mail

by Jenny
(Columbus, OH USA)

My husband and I are going to be apart all summer. He’ll be in one state by himself for work, and I’ll be in another with the kids.

It is a tough separation, but I’ve figured out a few ways to make it better that I think he really appreciates.

One, we got webcams and talk over VOIP every night.

Being able to see each others’ faces while we talk makes all the difference. It’s so much better than just talking on the traditional telephone.

I like it when he just walks around the apartment cooking or doing his daily routine as he talks to me; I almost feel like I’m there.

He loves being able to see how the kids are growing, too.

Two, I try to send him something in the mail at least twice a week. I think he really likes knowing that I’m thinking about him.

I try to vary the types of mail I send. I’ll send a love letter one day, and then a picture that the kids drew another day, and then a homemade postcard another day.

The homemade postcards are my favorite. All you have to do is print out any 4x6 photo (I like to use photos of the kids, myself, or things we’ve done or places we’ve gone) and use it like you would a postcard.

Just slap the address, a message, and a stamp on the back and it’s ready to mail.
