Daffodils Do It for Me

I never used to be much of a “flower girl.”

Although I loved and appreciated romantic flowers in the great outdoors, I was never been able to keep bouquets fresh and vibrant … even overnight!

I thought I must emit some sort of toxic fume, so that when I got around flowers, they would keel over and die!

I’ll never forget the red rosebuds that my boyfriend gave me for my 21st birthday.

They were rather pricey, as I recall and I did my best to keep them alive, but the poor things just nodded off and shriveled up.

I was so disappointed.

Not one of them opened up to reveal their beauty.

It was such a loving gesture.

I kept the buds and pressed them in my Bible.

Then I “grew up” and realized that in order to keep flowers looking pretty, I had to read the little card that came with them. DUH!

Anyway, I’ve grown to be a real flower girl and love to be presented with a beautiful, sweet-smelling bouquet.

I absolutely love spring flowers and what really gets to my heart are daffodils and jonquils.

They bring back such wonderful memories of when I was a little girl growing up in Pennsylvania.

Our entire back yard turned into a yellow carpet each spring, when the daffodils bloomed.

My very first love gave me a bouquet of daffodils, and maybe that’s why they remain the KEY to my heart.

They don’t last long, but while they are in bloom, they’re strong, hardy and just perfect.

They’re definitely my idea of a romantic flower.
