...Relationship problems. Advice on relationship problems has become so popular that one wonders if there was ever an era when people used to snicker at the thought of discussing problems that were so personal. From finance to sex, everything is a potential atomic bomb. An explosion may be just round the corner. If you are one of those lucky few that have escaped (albeit narrowly) a disastrous or tumultuous relationship, then you deserve an award of some kind. For the rest of us ordinary humans, here goes... A recent survey noted that sex, money and arguments are the three main causes for discontent. So... This advice on relationship problems will focus on these problems. Sex: 'Not today, darling. I'm having a terrible headache.' How many times have we heard this one! Sexual compatibility is tough when men and women have different expectations from sex. Men want pleasure, women want love. He is ready for it 24/7. She wants it only when everything else is going great guns. A sound advice on relationship problems of this kind is: when things start becoming a tad boring, do something new. There are some great vacation spots around the world - Maine, Galveston, Detroit, and Taos. Plan something for just the two of you. A little exclusive time together will rejuvenate the old libido. Infidelity is a big stumbling block in a relationship. Once somebody has committed this and has been found out, things start becoming serious fast. My sincere advice on relationship problems of this kind is that a stray incident need not be the end of a relationship. It would be more intelligent to use this as a wake up call and go in for some emergency damage control. Money: Often partners in love act as if there's no tomorrow. They shower each other with gifts, and spend money like water. But once the novelty wears off, money begins to stick. People have different attitudes about spending. Some save while others are mindless spenders. Bring these two together and you have a recipe for disaster. 'Plan together' is my advice on relationship problems that deal with money. Make a budget, chart out your monthly expenditure and keep a record of your savings. Men OFTEN hide money matters from women. Then why complain when she buys that spanking new oven just for the heck of it? Arguments: When you spend a good part of your time with the same person, it's only natural to fight. C'mon, you need to hold on to your sanity. Screaming and yelling are facets of a healthy relationship, so is throwing china at the door. No problems. But, if you feel fed up of these entertaining activities, and if it is causing you more grief than joy (??) then it's time to do something about it. A good fight keeps you close. A little frisson of excitement is one of the good aspects of a fight. A lot of issues are thrashed out and partners can bridge a lot of gap that way. But often, fights turn predictably ugly. Then they begin to threaten the stability of your relationship. When you are angry, try to keep quiet. Angry words lead to more anger. After a fight, discuss and patch up. Advice on relationship problems is easy to give, but tough to follow. But if you have a good thing going, it really does not make sense to throw it all away and start afresh. After all... Every relationship has its share of problems... ...Better the devil you know than the devil you don't. |
