A Taste of Switzerland in the US

When you think of eloping, the first places that come to mind are Las Vegas or Mexico.
Never in a million years would you think of Wisconsin.
But I did.
My husband and I always made the 90 mile run up to Milwaukee from Chicago.
We would travel around neighboring towns and do all kinds of touristy things.
My family even had a friend who owned a cave in Kickapoo, Wisconsin.
With our love for the state, we figured where else but Wisconsin.
We eloped to New Glarus, Wisconsin.
...Settled by Swiss immigrants, New Glarus has beautiful chalet architecture everywhere you look.
The restaurants are cozy and very hospitable with fantastic food and drink.
The hotels feel like a bit of heaven.
Fireplaces, private hiking trails, and wildlife abound no matter where you stay.
With six different churches, along with city hall, you are able to have the wedding you wish with no trouble at all.
I was married by the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church reverend.
We visit several times each year and relive our wonderful decision to be married in the Switzerland of the US.
