A Letter to Remember

A friend of mine was in tough financial straits. He had to leave a job he loved, and both him and his girlfriend had to move home to save money.
As they had lived together before, living apart left him broke emotionally, as well as financially.
As a young man with no degree and few options, he decided to join the Navy.
He knew that his mom and girlfriend would both try to talk him out of it, so he kept silent until he was securely on base.
He then drafted a letter to his love: "I did this for us. To build our future. Will you marry me?"
She said YES.
For the next year, he made the five-hour drive home every weekend he could just to be with her.
They married on his first leave, and began their life together.
Many years later, his wife still has the letter.
Memories of moments fade over time, but ink stays strong.
What a treasured keepsake it must be for her!
