The Romantic Gift of Cactus

Looking for a romantic gift to give that special someone in your life but stumped for ideas?

Ever thought of giving a plant as a romantic gift?

Here's what I did several years ago when I was living in Toronto, Canada. There was a pretty young lady who was living in Kitchener, a town several miles from Toronto.

On one special occasion I happened to invite her to a function in Toronto, and by way of a gift, I took with me a small bowl of cactus plant.

Now, I've always been a lover of cacti. I would spend countless hours in the little floral shops that were so numerous in the city just gazing at the plants. There were some that were grafted with different varieties of the plant, and they usually bloom with exciting multi-colored flowers. Those are the ones that I really like.

Now, after a while I left for Texas to study and eventually lost communication with this young lady. A few years later I was back in Toronto for a visit and was delighted to run into her. She was living in the city and had invited me to her home for dinner.

Imagine my surprise on seeing that same cactus plant sitting on her Coffee Table. I felt happy knowing that a romantic gift that I had given several years ago was still cherished.

Cacti are low-maintenance plants. They require very little water and can survive extreme weather conditions. With just a fraction amount of care they can continue to bloom.

Just remember a bottle of perfume will eventually finish and live roses will soon wither and die, but a multi-grafted cactus with its kaleidoscopic of colors can withstand many a condition.

So...next time you're looking for a romantic gift...think of giving a cactus plant.
